  Gear Coupling Drive of Compressor

  Gear coupling transmission also has the function of transmitting power and changing speed. Gear transmission itself also needs to consume a certain amount of energy, but it is more efficient than belt transmission. Gear transmission needs additional bearings, and the lubrication system of the machine has higher requirements. Because the gear of screw compressor belongs to high-speed and heavy-duty gear, the requirement of processing accuracy and material quality is very high, and the production cost is high.

  Gear transmission has two main advantages: the first product is easy to change; the second is that there are no consumables and vulnerable parts in the transmission link of gear transmission compressor.

  There is also a special transmission mode in gear compressor, which is a direct drive compressor with speed-increasing gears. External coupling is used to transfer power, and internal gear is used to change speed.

  Comparing the direct drive of compressor with belt drive, it can be found that the direct drive and belt drive have their own advantages and disadvantages. We will compare gear compressor and belt compressor from various aspects.

  A. efficiency

  Excellent gear transmission efficiency can reach 98% - 99%, excellent belt transmission design can also achieve 99% efficiency under normal conditions. The difference between them does not depend on the choice of transmission mode, but on the design and manufacturing level of the manufacturer. However, it is easier to maintain a higher transmission efficiency in gear mode, while belt transmission is more difficult, with an average efficiency of 94% - 98%.

  B. No-load energy consumption

  For the direct transmission mode of gears, the no-load pressure should generally be maintained above 2.5 bar, some even as high as 4 bar, to ensure the lubrication of gearbox.

  For belt drive mode, theoretically no-load pressure can be zero, because the oil sucked by the rotor is enough to lubricate the rotor and bearing. Generally speaking, for safety, the pressure is maintained at about 0.5 bar.

  C. loss of oil

  The gear box will be the first to suffer from oil loss. There is no such safety problem in belt drive system.

  D. Design Pressure According to User Requirements

  Usually the pressure required by the user is not exactly the same as that of the manufacturer's standard model. By simply changing the diameter of the pulley, the belt drive designer and manufacturer can design the pressure exactly in accordance with the user's requirements, so that the user can get more air flow with the same power motor. For gear transmission, it is not so convenient.

  E. Pressure change of installed compressor

  Sometimes the design pressure of the original compressor may be too high or too low due to the change of the production process conditions of the users. It is hoped to be changed. But for the Gear-driven compressor, it will be very difficult and expensive. For the belt-driven compressor, it is easy to replace the pulley.

  F. Installation of new bearings

  When the rotor bearings need to be replaced, for the Gear-driven compressor, the gearbox and the gearbox spindle bearings need to be overhauled at the same time, and the cost is unacceptable to users. For belt drive compressor, there is no such problem.

  G. Replacement of shaft seals

  The screw compressor uses an annular shaft seal, which needs to be replaced for a certain life. For gear-driven compressors, the motor and coupling must be separated before they can approach the seal, which makes the work time-consuming and laborious, thus increasing the maintenance cost. For belt drive compressor, it is much easier to unload the pulley.

  H. Damage to motor or rotor bearings

  For gear drive compressor, when the motor or rotor bearing is damaged, it will often damage the important parts connected, causing direct and indirect double damage. There is no such condition for belt drive compressor.

  Summary

  For the three coupling transmission modes of compressor: direct connection, belt and gear, the efficiency is equal in principle, but because different types of machine, different production technology, different materials, different working conditions and different maintenance will result in different efficiency, so it is meaningless to focus on the debate of technology itself. Everything should be based on the application of "human". 。
